Announcement

Hi guys! I have some very exciting announcement for a new space! Thefashionnassassin has moved to a exciting new space at PIXIEINSPACE and will now be blogging only there. Fret not because all the archives have been moved and you can read all the post from 2011 to 2012. I will not be updatin this space anymore and a short explanation about the move can be found there.

Love you guys and see you there!

The dork.

You’ve seen the shirt, you’ve seen the skirt. Needless to say, you’ve seen the shoes countless times too. You’ve never seen them together and neither have you seen them paired with these accessories. A hat from a swop, a pair of prescription lenses, a wrist wrapped up with a headband and my trusty ole backpack. What do you get? A dork who aunties frown upon.

There’s so many elements from different looks and with each element thrown in, the look is transformed. Without the specs it might just be a sports- inspired outfit. Without the maxi, I might just be a boy. Without the specs I could be the nerd who tried too hard. There’s so much going on, but with everything done haphazardly, there’s more casual than anything else and I think it works. What do you think?

The bag lady.

(Shirt: Feist Shorts: Topshop Shoes: Dr Martens Bag: Coach Necklace: Diva)

Wore this outfit to Dorothy Perkins is 10 and I have to say handbags just never seem to fit me right. Im often bewildered when a handbag is handed to me, not knowing where how I should wear it. Should I throw it over the shoulder, balance it on the elbow or hold it the way I did in the photo? There was even a period of time where I contemplated hugging it right across my chest. The latter was comforting when all else felt really odd. Too bad I looked like a strange bag lady.

Well you can’t blame me for taking the bag out despite all the inner warring. The colour was just too delicious to pass! The pretty pink, just perfect for spring and the way it softened the look even with it’s structured shape. Of course, I would take the satchel version without hesitation if it ever arrives (at my doorstep hopefully.)

I still feel that juxtaposition of the feminine with the masculine in this outfit. Even with all that pink, the military style shirt and my hair definitely man(ned) up the look more than what a plain ole t would. And yes, I need a new statement necklace.

Tonight you can fall asleep laughing about how awkward I looked with a handbag. Goodnight!

The affair

ASOS Colour Block Nylon Backpack SGD$82.66, Nasty Gal Leopard Backpack USD$88.00, ASOS Limited Edition Patchwork Backpack SGD$91.84, ASOS Canvas Backpack With Contrast Panelling SGD$34.44, Marc By Marc Jacob Packables Backpack USD$88.00, Alexander Wang Scuba Backpack USD$980

My affair dates back to when I was 9. My first love was a delicious hot pink nylon backpack with buckle straps and really cute lace up details across the middle section. I fell in love with it and luckily for me, my mum bought it for me. I had the time of my life stuffing things in that backpack and got many compliments for it. Eventually it tore and I needed a new bag. Then it became a tradition for me to get a new backpack every year for school. I remember my sister bringing me everywhere to search for a new backpack each year. They could never replace that pink backpack but they were all unique in they own way. At 13, I had this cool corduroy backpack with pink sides and at 15 I was going everywhere with a vintage Camel backpack. I found my colour block lacoste backpack at 17 and in the same year I bought this really pretty blue printed backpack from Urbanoutfitters. They were all different but they made me very happy. Clutches and handbags just aren’t the same! My backpacks kept my hands free and my back decorated, they took the burdens for my shoulders and at the same time kept them contained before they eventually gave way. So you can see why Im that excited to see them making a comeback for Spring Summer 2012! <3

The element of surprise

My brother kindly snapped these for me the other day. Unfortunately cloudy skies and poorly lit corridors weren’t the best conditions for a picture but I had to show you guys this outfit!

The dress I’m wearing is actually a sweater vest I got recently. When the buttons are positioned at the front, they make the perfect cover- up for a casual outfit, and when inspiration (and cash) runs dry, they can easily become a dress! Worn backwards here, they became the perfect ‘basic’ dress with a fantastic back. It helps that my slip had a halter back that totally added oomph to the look. I’ll be sure to post an image of how this vest could be worn over a casual look. :)

Fashion Steps Out 2012

Had the previledge of checking out the promotional concept stores at Fashion Steps Out 2012 last friday before it was opened up to public. Topshop had a print shop that allows you to choose among limied prints and have them printed on tote bags. You can then stamp your name on it. All for $15 and for that, you get a $20 Topshop voucher! How awesome is that? Got one for myself and then stamped something at the back. I can’t wait to show you guys but good things are worth waiting for right!

So anyway, the best part of FSO was being with Anza and Maggie! Felt totally at ease with them and we even managed to talk to Serena from Spicystiletto, together with the others from the F3 editorial team.

The most interesting part of the day was probably wearing the dress to the event and then opening up the magazine (that they gave out) to find my dress featured in it. Haha. The dress was really comfy by the way. <3
